Monthly discussion forums

Since April 2016, we have been running a monthly forum of interest to therapy professionals. This usually takes the form of a brief presentation by a practitioner followed by Q&As and discussion. Topics so far have included introductions to Human Givens Therapy, client directed therapies, both holistic and psychological, the development of Myofascial Release, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).  The next forum, in December, covers Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) or 'tapping'.

With such a mix of holistic and psychological skills at the Eco Offices, much of the discussion has been on the mind/body connection, two areas historically kept apart by Western medicine, treated by different professionals following different rules.  But with psychological therapists dealing with people struggling with physical health problems,  and holistic therapists working on clients where emotional as well as physical traumas have lodged themselves in the body, there is considerable overlap.

For those trained in a different medical tradition, such as our Ayuvedic Doctor, Raishath Sabeel, and in energy and spiritual methods of healing such as our three Reiki practitioners Beth Hunt, Toni Hannaway and Jan Peet, such mind/body distinctions may seem artificial.  But most of the therapists who've come to embrace a more inclusive approach have arrived at their positions by identifying gaps in conventional physical and mental health pathways.
