About our practitioner
About Ayurveda – how is it different from western medicine?
Ayurveda is a holistic approach to maintaining health. It focuses on disease prevention as well as disease management through different approaches: specific dietary and lifestyle practices with daily and seasonal routines; herbs and detoxification therapies (that may include panchakarma, massages, exercise and yoga). Ayurvedic practitioner will look to improve health by formulating a personalised plan. Because the system looks more on individual and not the symptom of the disease, it is not a quick fix or a one size fits all approach to health. So, having a detailed consultation with a practitioner can support and guide you, in your journey towards health and wellbeing to bring lifestyle changes that you wanted to make.
Health and wellness according to ayurveda
According to this healing system, regaining of equilibrium and wellness, is based on the concept of balancing of five elements (space, air, fire, water and earth) and ‘Tri-doshas’ (constitutional types; ‘Vata’, ‘Pitta’ and ‘Kapha’) inside the body. Vata can be simplified as the principle movement, Pitta the principle of transformation and Kapha the principle of cohesion inside us. By analysing the individual’s balance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha we can find the current imbalances and bring the person back into a balanced constitution so they can live life healthily and to their best ability. Ayurveda empowers individuals with the knowledge to understand their own unique nature and tendency towards a weakness or disease, to help maintain health and wellbeing.
How to achieve balance?
Ayurvedic consultations rely on assessing a patient’s constitutional type to diagnose the root cause of imbalance that manifests as disease. Treatments are tailor-made to the individual and can include simple diet and lifestyle advice, food supplements or herbs, physical treatments like full-body massage or local applications, psychological and emotional counselling, meditation, yoga or other forms of subtle therapies.
Ayurveda teaches us, how-to live-in harmony with nature, food, seasons, family and one’s own body. In the modern fast paced world, (causing undue stress to the mind) of junk food (burdening gut health and digestive power) and spiritual vacuum causing significant issues to many, as they lose their constitutional balance. Therefore, mindfulness which helps to combat stress (identified as a potential cause of disease) and restoring the gut microbiome (again associated with a number of diseases) are fundamental aspects of the Ayurvedic approach which help to restore health and wellbeing.
