About Dr Bethany Camp

 

I am a Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health Care and Professionals Council (HCPC; registration number PYL043091). I currently work in NHS services whilst delivering evidence-based therapy in private practice. My overall aim throughout our sessions will be to work with you in developing a deeper understanding of your experiences and provide you with the tools and confidence in making positive, lasting change to enhance your relationships and enjoyment in life, however that might look for you.

Experience

I have worked across a variety of NHS mental health settings over the course of my professional career, supporting children, young people and families, adults, and older adults in understanding and reducing emotional and psychological distress. Throughout, I have delivered different psychological therapeutic models including those which involve Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I worked in NHS psychotherapy services in my doctorate specialist year, drawing upon a range of relational therapy approaches including Family Therapy, Psychotherapy, and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT).

My therapy roles have included working with people who have experienced different psychological and emotional difficulties including:

  • Trauma
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Anger
  • Low mood
  • Racing thoughts
  • Eating difficulties
  • Relationship challenges
  • Loss
  • Low self-esteem

I also have an interest and experience in delivering mind-body approaches to improve wellbeing. Such approaches highlight the important link between taking care of ourselves physically and our ability to manage our emotions via the healthy regulation of our nervous system. The more we can listen to our bodies and recognise our emotional needs, the more we can notice our unhelpful patterns of coping that maintain difficulties long-term and limit personal growth and self-expression.

My doctorate research explored the trauma experiences, burnout, and quality of life of staff members working in homelessness. Staff wellbeing and prioritising professional quality of life continues to be an interest of mine and an important aspect of my current work.

1. We can arrange a short initial session via phone or online to discuss your circumstances and this will help us decide whether it is appropriate to arrange an initial assessment session.

2. Psychological assessments can take up to two 60-minute sessions, to allow us time to gain a comprehensive understanding of your difficulties, and to create a therapeutic plan to meet your needs.

3. We can then arrange follow-up therapy appointments, should you still choose to pursue therapy. These appointments are typically weekly or fortnightly and last up to 60 minutes.

Specialist Training

Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) Core Training: Bristol, UK (three years, ongoing).

I have completed 320 hours of Certified Yoga Teacher Trainings, including in Trauma Sensitive Yoga. These trainings have complemented elements of therapy (e.g., when integrating skills in managing strong emotions and self-awareness) and supports a holistic understanding of health and wellbeing.
